Remember the shape first
After one hearing, describe direction, repeated notes, and the resting point. Those landmarks reduce the number of individual pitches you need to hold in memory.
Trace the illustration for “Remember the shape first” (C4, D4, E4, D4, E4) from left to right and identify where the notation rises by step or by leap. Predict the keyboard direction and destination before moving the hand.
Separate rhythm and pitch
Tap the rhythm before searching for notes. Then sing the contour from a known starting pitch and write or play one small group at a time.

Now take the idea to the keyboard. Hear a five-note motive, wait three silent seconds, then reproduce it and compare only after the full attempt.
