Level 2 Checkpoint

Confirm that you can keep a steady beat through notes, holds, and one-beat rests.

Read rhythm first

Before naming pitches, identify which notes last one beat, two beats, or four beats. Rhythm gives the exercise its shape.

Then add the notes

Once the count is clear, play the staff notes slowly and keep the pulse even from the first note to the last.

Guided walkthrough

Prove that the beat stays steady through notes, holds, and rests.

  1. 1Count a full measure before starting.
  2. 2Identify the longest note value.
  3. 3Play the pattern without changing tempo.

Try it on the keyboard

Play the checkpoint slowly enough that every hold and rest gets its full value.

  1. 1Count aloud.
  2. 2Keep held notes down for their full duration.
  3. 3Keep silent beats silent but counted.

Common mistake

Do not speed up after rests. The next note must land where the count places it.

Check yourself

Can you write the counts under the notes before playing them?

Lembre-se

A checkpoint is passed by control, not speed. Count clearly and play deliberately.
